About the Book

I Don’t Want a Gorilla

Eunice, an imaginative and dramatic 8-year-old, overhears her parents planning her first pet and is convinced they’ve decided on a gorilla. Over three chaotic days — a library research mission, an unexpected “Student of the Month” award, a DIY gorilla habitat built from her mom’s craft yarn, and a birthday countdown — she wrestles with excitement, dread, and family love, all building to a birthday-party gift reveal.

About the Author

Becka Gast

Becka Gast is a Pacific Northwest–based debut author, full-time hairstylist, and single mom who carried the idea for I Don’t Want a Gorilla in her imagination for nearly two decades before finally putting it on paper. The story was sparked by a real moment with her own daughter, who as a toddler misheard Becka say she was headed to the store for glue and became convinced a gorilla was coming home instead — a charming mix-up that grew into the heart of this picture book. Between a demanding career and raising her daughter, Becka credits the encouragement of family and friends for helping turn a long-held dream into a finished book. Looking ahead, she plans to write more stories while continuing to put her personal touch on her home in the PNW.
